I was doing some surfing on here and it seems most folks seat their 45-70 loads to the SAMMI OAL. Has anyone tried seating bullets longer to improve accuracy and if so what were the results? Is the process for finidng out that magic number generally the same as for a bolt action rifle to determine seating depth? It seems feasible so long as the seating depth still lets you use the crimping groove.

Yea you can seat the bullet to just touch the lands but in my rifle they are hard to get in the loading gate. May or may not be the same in others. If you get too long you might have trouble getting the round to eject without firing.
