I never took note of this before and wanted to know y'alls findings. I'm familiar with the big bores but I'm not a specialist.

My 444P S/N starting with Triple 0 seems to have a slight feed ramp just inside the chamber. The outer face of the chamber is good and flat. None of my 30-30's have this.

It does seem purposeful and is about 1/8" at the widest part of the bevel from the edge of the chamber rim.

Is this normal?

Most of the 444's I have seen have a slight bevel in that area. Sometimes I rework that bevel to improve feeding. If you rifle feeds your rounds well and the unsupported head of the cartridge is not being distorted, I would not worry about it. Might have come that way or somebody might have modified it.

I forgot I even had this rifle. I thought I was down to my final selection till the grave, then I dig this out of the cabin. I bought it second hand many years ago but its basically new. I put on a WWG big loop lever and never fired it?

Thanks for the input and I'd sure appreciate more. I might run a box of shells through it (which I don't have) before I decide her fate, which is probably not staying with me. It has a pretty good cool factor.

Isn't the 00 a 2000 model?

I hate to have to be the bearer of bad news, but your rifle aint no good. That type of 444 can't shoot worth a hoot and barely enough power to kill bambi beyond 20 yards. Nope, you have a real piece of garbage. Don't waste your time shooting it, you will only be disappointed. Best bet is box it up and send it out to somebody in Arizona.

I forgot to mention. You have an infamous Y2K 444. Those are the worst. Bullets from them just bounce off of deer. Just sayin'.

Its food for thought as this is the second outfitter I've owned. I sold the other one three years ago. I just never noticed the chamber work before.

Yep that 1-20 twist sure makes the T4's lower then a snakes belly :vollkommenauf:
My 444's have the same type cuts, I have never ever forgot about a firearm, I may have misplaced one for several months, but never forgot about one

Well, I don't think I never noticed that chamber relief in the 444, and if I did......no flags went up.........

I have the same relief in my 444 chamber, and my barrel was made in 2002/3.

I rebarreled my rifle with a NEW Specially built barrel that I oversaw the manufacture of, when I was a MFG Engineer at Marlin.....

That feature may be an added feature that was added when the unique 444 spring loaded carrier was replaced with a standard type carrier..........I just don't know........

I really can't add any more facts, except that to my eye, what you have seems to be an original un-modified 444 chamber.

Just checked my Outfitter, it's a 2000 as well and it has the lead in. Mine looks like it may have been hand polished.

Mine is set up for a scout scope...I have a Leupold 2.5x scout scope that currently sits on my 1895 GBL but works just as well on the 444P. I like the extended eye relief and they make target acquisition quick and easy.
