I bought it about 25 years ago. It has a 'gold plated' trigger and is marked 'MOD. 1894 - MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. 44 REM. MAG.' on the round barrel. The stock is plain. It's a basic rifle but a sweet shooting SOB.

Is there a suffix to the model number? For example 1894(??)

Plainsman, S/N is 221XXXXX. I figgered the first three digits might help.
Marlin seems fond of their suffixes and I have no idea what mine is. I guess I'll use 'Nanooks' appelation of 1894 SSSOB.
If you can provide more info I appreciate it.
Thanks, and God bless...Jim

Brophy's book says 1978 serial numbers for 336,444,1894,and 1895 started with 22,000,000 and ran to 22,250,000. And you say yours is 22,1xx,xxx . So there is your answer :D
