A local gave me a box of reloads

so I started taking a close look and sure enough he loaded 405 grain cast in the short Hornaday brass
OAL 2.43
Other than poor grouping any other issues one would have?

As long as he use a safe powder charge you won't likely have any issues. You may have to spend a bit more time cleaning a powder ring out of the chamber, but that's no big deal.

not sure I would shoot a "locals" reloads unless I knew and trusted "local" . I would break them down and reuse the components to reload what I like.

pullem, trash the brass, feed the dog the powder, and loadem to your specs

+1 for not shooting another's reloads but don't trash the brass. Others here may use that brass.

Yep, I've got the Hornady Dimension dies and FP bullets and brass, just haven't started loading any yet! Soon though! Will let you know how they workout with IMR-4198 powder!
