Wow! You have a Herter's 401 Powermag. You like more obscure cartridges than me. Roberson (www.rccbrass.com) has some formed cases for $4.32 a case. Buffalo Arms has formed cases for about $1.50 a case. It can also be formed from 41 Mag. Singleactions.com has a great article. Good luck in your search.
With a 10 ton press, a lathe and a primer pocket reamer, .401 Powermag cases can be made from .41 Rem Mag cases. Nothing else in the American cartridge lineup is close. The ancient .41 Colt case is too small, both in length and diameter.
Yes, the above I know. I have a little over 200 originals cases coming and that may be enough. But I thought I would check here. I load for 38-40 and one of the molds casts a bit fat at .403 and that perfect for the 401 Herters. 41 colt on the left fits but loose, it would swell and maybe crack if fired. 401 Herters in the middle and 10mm on the right.
