Howdy folks, I have a question about an early '50's model 39a. I can't seem to find it here already answered(but of course I'm computer challenged). The lever on this well used 39a doesn't stay locked up in it's closed position after cycling the lever. Is there a way to adjust or fix this or is it just worn out? Thought about getting this rifle to tinker with and restore but I don't want to take on a loosing project if it's unfixable. Thanks, Danny

There is a flat spring retained by a screw that keeps pressure on the lever near its pivot point.
Check the screw and see if it will snug up any. The screw comes up from the underside of the receiver.
If you can split the halves of the gun you will see how it works.
If the flat spring is broken ,deformed or the screw is not tight that would allow the lever to fall away from the receiver.
Good luck with it, ya can't beat those old 39a's
