I recently adopted a 70s vintage 39A to go with my 60s vintage 39A. I cleaned up the rifle and got the trigger lightened up, when I tried to sight it in I was unable to elevate the rear sight enough to zero the rifle at any range. Closer examination showed the front ramp height to be 1/4" on the older gun and 5/16" on the newer one. Both ramps look identical other than height and appear to be original, there's not much room for a lower bead on the taller ramp.
I see part # F406317 listed as the front ramp for the 39A with no mention of height, or other part #s for different heights.
Does anyone here know the story, or can you tell me the height of #F406317? Or have a 1/4" tall ramp to spare?

Both ramps look like the "old style" ramp listed here.

I've measured the ramps more precisely now and I'd call the lower ramp 3/16" and the taller ramp 1/4".

Did your rifle have a scope on it at one time, and when the rear sight was put back on, it was the wrong one?

It did have a scope on it but the rear sight looks original, it folds down so probably didn't need to be removed. It was pointed out to me that Brownells does list the height for the F406317 ramp as .190" which is the same as my older rifle. I'll order one of those.
That doesn't solve the mystery, but it will fix my problem. It's possible that the front sight was removed and replaced with the wrong one.
