I still have problems after sending my 2 year old 39A to 2 gunsmiths. They replaced the inner tube, outer tube and the cartridge guide spring. The gun ejects 3-4 rounds then it takes another 4-5 ***** and they start coming out again and so on. I have a new Wisner extractor for it and will get another smith to install. I have read the stickies about this and the extractor sounds like what I need. The question is.......what is the difference between an extractor and an ejector and their functions?

The extractor is a hook mounted to the bolt. It grabs the spent case by the rim and pulls or "Extracts" the case out of the chamber.

You can see the extractor in this pic, holding the bolt to the case. (This is the new style "Bent Paper Clip" type. Your Weisner's extracter is a solid steel hook)

The Ejector is a spring loaded arm mounted in the left side of the rifle behind the bolt.

You can see the ejector in this pic. It's a steel arm mounted in the brass oval piece in the side of the rifle.

When the bolt moves back away from the chamber, the ejector pushes the case out of the extractor hook and then "Ejects" it out of the rifle with spring pressure.
