I've got a pre safety 1894 in .357 magnum. The barrel is marked .357 magnum and doesn't mention .38 special. Is it ok to shoot .38 specials?

Thanks

Yes it will fire .38 special and +P ammo. Some rifles feed specific .38 special ammo better than others. I believe it is the overall length of the cartridge as well as the shape of the bullet that determines how smoothly they feed. I've got a pre safety 1894 C that loves .38's whereas my 1894CSS prefers .357's.

Remember to clean your chamber after firing a bunch of .38’s to avoid the carbon ring buildup if you plan to switch back to full-length .357 mag.
