All,

I just lined up a deal to purchase a slightly used 336SS. I've never hunted before (long time shooter), but have a friend who is willing to teach me this season, so I want to get my rifle and scope nailed down ASAP.

I am a big fan of the scout scope setup on a lever gun. Does anyone have any specific feedback regarding the two scout mounts I have been able to locate for the Marlin 336, the XS and the Weaver? I can't find too much about the Weaver on-line; perhaps it's relatively new? But Weaver has a good reputation for bases, rings, and optics. The XS seems to get good reviews.

Thanks,

-Jeff

For me, this would be a no brainer. XS all the way. The more important question is what optic will you use?
