I'm kind of looking at a 336 in .35 Remington that was manufactured in 1959. The owner said he assumes if has Ballard rifling based on the year it was made.

Any ideas on this?

I don't think they put Ballard rifling in guns after 1955. There may be some rifles sold in early 1956, but not in 1959. The gun should say Micro groove rifling on the barrel.

Anvil308,

1959 will be Micro-Groove rifling, and the roll mark on the barrel should state that.........Althought, its possible the older roll mark die was used, but not likely........

At any rate, count the lands and grooves. The older pre 1955 rifling will have 6 each, the MicroGroove will have 12 each.
