336 RC 30-30?

I just bought five guns from an old guy I met a couple of years ago, He decided he didn't need them any more. one is a 336 RC serial number ADXXX looks like 1968. He says He bought it and shot a box and a half of shells threw it and put it in the closet and never shot it again, it doesn't have a mark on it! that said the action is stiff and the wood looks like it never had a finish on it and you can feel little fibers on it, there are no sanding marks so I think it just dried out so is it ok to use say true oil on it or just leave it alone as for the action I think just a good cleaning and a little gun oil should help. What does the RC stand for? Dennis

The RC stands for Regular Carbine, the R was later dropped and just 336C used to describe the Carbine style. The style refers to the barrel bands that also go around the forearm. If I am wrong please someone correct me...
thank You! sounds correct.Dennis
I am not a Marlin history buff so take this with a grain of salt.

Before Marlin started putting the Mar-Shield (?) finish on stocks they were often pretty porous with lots of grain showing and felt. I suspect that is the case with yours. I actually like those older stocks. They don't seem so "plastic coated" to me.
Howard's Feed 'N Wax would be what I'd put on that wood.
I personally dislike the shiny finish of tru-oil or lin-speed oil any such product. It makes the gun look cheap to me anyway.

I like to use several coats of just plain old linseed oil.

OR if I want the gun to look like it has a quality finish I use Tung Oil. Hand rub a coat on, let it dry 24 hours or more and the use 0000 steel wool to smooth it off. Do this 6 or 7 times and you have a finish that will make your gun look like a million dollars.

I just read another post about a 1963 Marlin 336RC. The "RC" stands for Royal Canadian. According to the post, Marlin tried to market to the Canadian market by using the Royal Canadian name. Does the barrel say Royal Canadian on it? If so, only 271 of these were produced in .30-30. Canada as it turned out would not let Marlin use the name Royal Canadian. There are also some Model 336RCs in .35 caliber. Only about 300 .35 calibers were produced. These are collectible rifles. Look at the barrel and see what you have. Good luck.

Actually, RC stands for Regular Carbine on this rifle. The "Royal Canadian" model had Royal Canadian on the barrel. Two completely different things here.

I wish it was a Royal Canadian but it just a 336 RC But it's a Beauty! as for the stock refinising I read on another thread that they used Minwax wipe on poly to finish the stock so I tryed the satin and couldn't be happer with the outcome, Drys in 3 hours 0000# steel wool between coats [Five coats] and that's it. I've use true oil and Danish oil and both were good but this faster and it looks great. Dennis
Marlin 30-30 model 336 rc serial # H2867

can anybody tell me about this weapon, is it collectable, how many made, what year is this weapon and approx how much it is worth. Thank you in advance for the help.
its not considered a collectors item, but a lot of us have more than 1, , it is a top quality hunting rifle and its worth will depend on where you live...from under 400 to upper 400's is a decent guess...sounds like yours is a nice one
