Anybody out there got a 336 Cowboy??? In a 2002 Gun Digest they show one and say they started making these in 1999. It appeared with a straight smooth stock. Was this a mistake or mislabeled??
This is the same issue that has the article regarding chain firing of round nose bullets in tube mags.

I have 3-336 cowboys. 2 in 30-30 / 1 in 38-55.'99 sounds about right. I have only one original, as 2 are conversions. I like the conversions more as they are on pre-safety receivers. I believe the 30-30 was the first to be discontinued.

I have seen only the .38-55 models. Marlin dropped all of the big framed Cowboy models except for the .45-70 a few years ago. Which is a shame! :(

I would like to find a nice .38-55 for my wife to shoot.

i HAVE A COUPLE. the 336 Cowboys were available the first 2 or 3 years they werer made in 30-30 and 38-55 with only checkered atocks. in 2002 they discontinurd the 30-30 andwent to smooth stocks on 38-55 and were discontinued soon after. they are the Finest AND SOME OF THE PURTIEST. modern MARLIN RIFLES EVER MADE IN MY OPINION. THEY ARE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER AND GREAT SHOOTERS. MINE AIN'T FOR SALE. HEHEHEHE!

30/30 reloads with cast boolits are under 20 cents each...plinking loads closer to 10 cents...especially if you cast your own. Brass lasts roughtly forever. Only factory ammo I buy is 12 gauge and 22 Long Rifle.

If you can't find a Cowboy, keep an eye out for a ZANE GREY COMMEMORATIVE. There ain't no flies on my 24 inch, half magazine 336A in 30/30 either...I like it almost as much as my Cowboy Rifles.

IF you see a Cowboy on gunbroker, etc with a halfway decent BUY NOW, don't be shy. I waffled on one awhile back and then hit the BUY NOW at 5 AM before heading for work. Money I can find...Cowboy rifles are a lot scarcer.
