I will admit there are better caliber's out there for Moose and really big game.. but I would not be afraid to take a good shot at one with my 30-30.. but I would not and don't exceed the guns limits when hunting anything.. I would pass rather than take a crap shot at any animal. even whitetail .. and thats all I do usually hunt with it..

In Ed McGivern's book Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting there is a chapter where he talks about the new 357 Magnum. At the time of writing this book the 357 Magnum was the latest and greatest revolver round out there. In it he mentions the results of a gentleman that went hunting with the new 357 Magnum.

The results of Ernie Miller's hunting trip near the west entrance of Yellowstone Park armed with a 357 Magnum S&W Revolver.
Hit an Antelope at 125 yards and again at 200 yards killing it.
Killed a bull elk at 130 yards.
Killed a Moose at 100 yards.

So the moral of the story? In 75 years you'll be hearing how the S&W 500 Magnum and 7MM Remington Magnum are best suited for beer cans and small game. Can't wait to see what people are trying to shoulder then.
