Was just wondering if anyone has tried the lever evaluation ammo in either a 30 30 or 45 70 marlin

I've tried the .30-30. and it shoots fine... It shoots MOA at 150 yards and that works for me...

Both are very popular and the FTX is a proven bullet, though some say it tends to fragment too much at close distances. The #82747 averages around 1800 fps in my 16" 45-70 but is a lot of fun to shoot, especially with a suppressor.

Been shooting and reloading it out of my 1966 336 rc for years. Drops deer fast. 1” groups.
Just tried some factory in my 1895. 3 shots 7/8”.

What Kingstrider said. The 30-30 lever evaluation fragments into many small pieces at 25-30 yards on hogs. I don't use it anymore. Admittedly, I have not used it for long range shooting.

I like the FTX bullets in both .30-30 and .35 Rem. They are very accurate and have a bit of a flatter trajectory. I am a Barnes guy for the .45-70 in either 250 or 300 gr depending on what I am hunting. Just my thoughts.

The Hornady 325 grain FTX is very accurate in my 1895GS as is the Hornady 350 grain flat nose.
For hunting I use 48.5 grains IMR-3031 (3.7cc Lee dipper) behind the 350 grain Hornady flat point, a 400 grain hard cast (BNH:25) & the 400 grain Barnes Original flat point.
The recipe makes moderate, accurate loads that kill the game & leave the ball joint of my shoulder in its socket like it's supposed to be.

I have hunted with the FTX in my 35 Rem with great results on deer.
I just reloaded some for my 30 30 and was very impressed at how accurate and flat it shot at 200yds.
Just waiting for deer season to try the dirty dirty on game.

The 30-30 ammo is like a 30-30 on steroids.
very accurate in my guns, and is a hammer on deer, close range included. Some have issues with it, it's been my go to hunting round since it came out.

Two FTX loads for the 30-30, the 140 grain monolithic and the 160 grain lead jacketed. My 464 Mossberg is so-so with the 160 grain but shoots the 140 grain lead free very well. The monolithic probably will not fragment at close range. I am going to try the lead monolithic bullets this year as some claim superior performance. MN does not require them but suggests them. As they do not require them, but request them I see no harm in trying them. Some debate on the lead issue, but I do feed scraps to my dogs.

FTX not designed for use on thick skinned game. It was not designed to puncture the boar shield.
