So I got bit by the gun bug this month and am now (im)patiently waiting to get my grubby little hands on both my new 795 and the 925RM, and hopefully by the 16th. In the meantime I've been buying some extra oddball accessories for them, reading up on everything I can, watching videos, gps'g some safe & legal places to shoot outdoors, studying our lovely California gun laws, good safety practices, building some custom carrying cases for them, ad nauseum. And I must say, it's been very fun & therapeutic doing all of those. But I'm completely stumped on the scope thing, i.e. which rings, mounts, sizes, reticle styles, characteristics, brands and all the other stuff that is involved. Really, I'm completely lost on this topic----especially since I haven't shot a gun with a scope for almost 20 years. About all I know is that we'll be using these for plinking and target shooting (we don't hunt), want a scope for the 22WMR that will work out to maybe 150 yards max, and another for the 795 that will be good for up to a hundred yards. And price is an issue....like hopefully under $150.00 for the two of them. So can you Folks please point me in the right direction to which models would work for our applications, and the preferred mounting mechanisms to use? At least to just give me a head start on making the right purchase the first time?........ ;D

Thanx in advance,

RB

Have a look at the Mueller APV scope. They are pretty good for the money. or if you want something smaller, I believe Weaver makes a 2x7 rimfire variable. These are in the price range you are looking at. :D

If you have a WalMart with a sporting goods dept and they sell gun scopes, take a look at the Center Point 4-12x40 scopes. For 2 of them they'll set ya back for that $150 range you're looking for. They come with scope rings/scope end covers. Also they're illuminated in red/green or can keep off if bright day and still see reticle. For a Chinese scope they have very good glass for just plinking/target and it'll help you hit that 150yd target better with the scope's 12 power range. Just remember they're not a $200 scope where, if you change the power setting to another, you may have to readjust your clicks to get the correct POI for that power setting. Also Mueller is another good scope, but you may not get the power setting you want for longer distance shooting. Also you'll want a scope with "fine duplex" for target shooting. For the base mount, if you can get a single base and not a 2-piece base, you'll have a better aligned scope mount. I owned a Center Point for a couple days and I really liked it, BUT, it couldn't handle my 30-06, so I returned it.

On my 22 Mag I have a 3-9X40 because I want to hit smaller targets out to 125 yards. on my 39A I have a straight 4X because I don't normally shoot it beyond 75 yards.

Why don't you look at Bushnell Banners. People don't like them, but I have a 3-9X40 Dusk & Dawn on my 338 MX that is a wonderful scope and you can buy one for about $80. For the 22, Bushnell has a 1.5X4.5 that is on sale here at Optics Sale for $60.99 with free shipping.

Actually the 3-9X40 is on sale for $62.00

I put one of the Bushnells on my 983 22 Mag. Like Halwg I went for a bit more magnification as I wanted to be able to shoot out to 150 yds. I went with the Bushnell Trophy 4-12x40 AO, model # 734124M.

For more info: http://www.natchezss.com/category.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=BH734124M

I have found this scope to be bright, clear and the fast focus ring works well for my eyes along with the AO.

I have a Bushnell Rimfire 3-9x32 on my 981TS in 22LR and it works fine. I typically shoot 100 yds and under with the 22LR.

I plan to upgrade the scope on the 981 TS to the same scope as I have on the 983 one of these days as I really enjoy that scope.

Good luck with your research and selection.

Regards, TallGrass
