Is there a way to determine by serial number whether a rifle was originally a zipper or not? Looking at one that has a Douglas barrel on it that's chambered for .219 Zipper, but with no model designations I would normally see on the barrel, is there anyway to know whether this was a re-chambered .30-30 or just a zipper that was re-barreled?

I think I answered my own question…this rifle dates to 1949, and the zipper was only available from 1955-1959.
