Got a 44 Rem mag or 44 spl on the way s/n shows it 2003 manufacturer date. Pretty sure it's unfired. Question, on the barrel stamp what's the difference between 44 Rem mag, stamped barrel stamp and the 44 Rem mag or 44 spl stamped barrel. Thanks

44 Special Case Length 1.16" Max PSI 15,500 PSI
44 Magnum Case Length 1.285" Max PSI 36,000 PSI

So you can fire 44 Specials in a 44 magnum chamber, but you can't fire 44 Magnums in a 44 Special Chamber as the chamber would be too short, even if the firearm could take 44 magnum pressures. It's the same situation and relationship that the .357 Mag and 38 Special share.

Remington created the .44 magnum round with the aid of Elmer Keith. Carries their name.
In theory-You should be able to cycle and fire both the mag and Special in a mag chambered rifle.

Thanks for sharing that great information. Kinda confusing, I've seen some marked with just 44 Rem mag. The rifle I purchased was marked with 44 Rem mag or spl???
