This was to good not to share with other gobbler hunters.....my 2011 turkey hunting season as follows:
1st day: rolled a gobbler, gobbler got up and flew off (operator error with shotgun)
2nd day: missed a jake( operator error with the bow) had left gun at home, mad a gun.
3rd day: depressed, stayed home...
4th day: I woke up to a 20-30 mph wind gust's and a snow storm this morning. Not what you call ...good turkey hunting weather. Well, I figured can't shoot them from my bed. So off my daughter (age 16) and I went to my favorite hunting spot. Got to the hunting site....my blind was missing (blown away)...5 minutes of searching in the dark found it 75 yards away from previous spot covered in snow & frozen stiff. Brought a buddy heater for daughter. kid was cold after 15 minutes of sitting....no fuel in heater. (nice job dad) I thought there is just no way any turkey is going to be moving this morning, why am I here.....but I continued with soft yelps, clucks and purrs. Then my luck changed; a turkey gobbled 7 yards away from behind our blind. My kid was sleeping and about freeked. I nearly fell of my chair straining to get a eye on the bird. Low and behold there he was a Jake and his 3 brothers in tow. In a matter of seconds we had a Jake parade 7 yards in front of our snow covered / frozen blind. We both picked out our birds and sealed the deal. High 5's and hugs were flying about on that ridge. I will tell you hunters something... I have hunted alot of birds and killed plenty of "big ones" but today will go down in my hunting memory book as the greatest turkey hunting season and day ever !
Good luck to the rest of you this season !
