I've got my new 1897T. I ordered the Marble's tang sight for the 39a/1897CB/1894. I installed it with one screw. The factory installed rear sight doesn't seem to fold down. Any one know how to take it off or what other thing I should do?

Thanks.

I don't know if the 1897 sight folds as does the 39A. On my 39A, the leaf folds down out of the way. You could probably use it by just lowering the rear sight. I know the 39A sight base is in a dovetail in the barrel and could be driven out if necessary. Brownells sells a blank to fill that empty dovetail slot.

Just tap out that rear sight and get a blank from Brownells like chuckles said. Don't know if you've ever shot with a tang peep sight before, but once you get used to it you will have absolutely no use for that standard rear sight.

I've got an 1897 CL and that's what I did. Looks better without the rear sight anyway. Although not a close up pic, you can just bearly see the inserted blank where the rear sight used to be.

Thought about putting a Globe front sight on?
