I hope you're sitting down! Prices for good model 1895's have skyrocketed in recent years. The last gun show I attended in Reno, Nv. I saw a number of model 1895 Marlins. Most were very nice, and ran in the $3500-$5500 range. I did see a few that were what I call decent shooters, with somewhat brown finishes, but good bores. These ran in the $2000-$2500 range!
I sold a model 1895 takedown last year, in .33 Win. for $1500, and it seems I was a bit low, or missed the current trend in elevated prices. I'd say if you find an 1895 under $2,000 that's in good shootable condition, you better grab it. I think Jorgy had a decent one for under $2,000 on Gunsamerica.com recently. You might check there!
