this might seem like a stupid question but how does one take the top of the mag rube out to get at the spring and mag follower to replace it? I took the screw out at the the top of the mag tube but doesn't seem to free the cap up

You'll also need to remove the end cap from the forend.

You have to remove the forearm cap and tenon and ease the tube away from the barrel to clear the stud in the end.
