Big thanks to eoyguy for selling me his gorgeous 1895 LTD III. And consequently, thanks to cgcollins for selling it to eoyguy!

My first 1895 & 45-70! Cant wait to shoot her this weekend!

Any recomendations on factory ammo (I don't reload...yet) for these LTD's? At the moment I have the hornady leverevolution, as its the cheapest stuff I could find for $30 a box. All the other stuff was around $45 a box.

Hahah - Eoyguy already has first dibs if I ever sell it. Key word being IF.
I think he had some sellers remorse.

Whats funny is i am probably going to buy back a 336 I sold him a few months back. Just trading them back and forth!

Boy I like that, that is one pretty rifle.

For factory ammo I really like the Remington 405gr JSP, I've shot the 405gr Winchester too with great accuracy, mild recoil, & fantastic accuracy from both. I don't know if either are still cataloged, but I'd sure check they are good loads for normal hunting.

I don't favor the Hornaday offering, the case is a bit shorter which complicates things for a reloader.
Good shooting. & congratulations on a fine rifle.
We'd all probably like a range report when you can.

Good deal mearl. I just purchased one just like it a couple of months ago. It's my favorite of everything I have owned for a number of years. I started out with the Hornady LEs and really liked them, but my 2000 dom didn't have the LE follower, so I switched to some Magtech Cowboy Action loads. They were around 30$ a box, but you may as well give up and start reloading. The 45-70 finally broke my no reloading stand off of 30 years.

great lookin' rifle

congrats

for factory ammo I have been happy with the 300 gr Win. Super-X load, but there are many great choices out on the market, you will need to find what shoots best in your particular rifle, that is the one you need to choose, as every rifle will have it's own preference

besides, testing the different loads is a good excuse to get more range time

Mearl, fantastic grab! Your Gona love the way it handles. I've just recently picked on up and it's become one of my favorite, I think above my guide gun. I've only shot 325 leverlution in mine but it shoots them very well. The one thing it seems to me that this rifle has a harder kick to it than some of my other 45-70's. after you make it to the range and slang some lead let us know how she shoots and report on the kiss she leaves on your shoulder. Here's a look at mine because we all like pics. The target is a 3shot group at100yrds with the Hornady's. like its been said your gonna love it.

you got yourself a sweet rifle sir the remington 405 jsp is a very nice round to use in a ltd. they run very smooth through my ltd II. if you find it kicks a bit too much a limbsaver slip on medium buttpad works wonders! adds 1" to length of pull but you can take it off anytime you want without having to make any permanent changes to your shoulder mounted light artillery!:congrats:
