Although I think that I know the answer to this question... here it goes. Will a lever from a Model 1895 GG fit a straight stock 336? As I understand it the 1895 is a beefed up 336 - hence the question.

According to marlin's parts diagram the 336 and 444 share the same finger lever and the 45-70 and 450 share a different lever,

Rob, yes the 1895 lever will fit and work in a 336 , of course you will need the bottom metal also(trigger plate) to complete the straight stock conversion. The switch will not go the other way without cutting a groove in the lever for the 45-70 loading gate to sit down in.

I swapped the parts between my 336SS and 1895GS without a hitch. Seems some newer 336 levers already have the groove cut into them. Makes sense in a production setting as the manufacturer can stock one less part that way.
