Went to the range to-day for the first time this year to try out my new to me 1895 Cowboy. This is the first time out with it so was gung ho to go. My question, is it normal for the leaver to open after shooting the gun.
Hey there Ned -- No. Might be the lever plunger needs attention. Might be your loads need attention. Might be your grip (in relation to recoil) needs attention. Good luck. Best regards. Wind
You shooting stout loads? Second question, is it hard to stuff your paew in the lever? I had the same problem until I got a big loop. Lighter loads probably wouldn't do this, they didn't for me.
Since this rifle is probably not a Cowboy Action Shooter, I'd recommend replacing the lock-up spring with an OEM product...........or you could pull the spring and stretch it a bit. I had the same problem with mine, and replacing the spring with the original took care of the problem.
