I picked up my new 1894C from Big 5 this week. While taking it apart for that new gun cleaning, I noticed that my butt pad is just a piece of wood (or at least looks very much like a piece of wood). Is this normal? If it's wood, it is just a matter of time before it gets all scratched up and get the black paint all chipped, etc.

I heard of cost cutting but a wooden butt pad?

Anyone out there sell replacement metal ones? If not, at least rubber ones?

Thanks.

I have gotten good luck calling Marlin for items like this. Give them a call Monday. They do have a websight, and tell them the situation. They have been most helpful to me in the past. Never heard of a wooden butt pad! I am sure Brownell's would have it as Midway USA might.

It is the standard Marlin butt plate that they have had for years. I'm using my dads 30-30 that is almost 30 years old and the butt plate has held up fine. It is the same buttplate on my 336CB, and 35 Rem. Not to worry it will hold up unless you plan to use it for a battering ram
