Good morning to all. I’m new to marlins but have several Winchester’s and a Henry . I’ve recently acquired a 1894 in 25-20 made in 1904. As I haven’t seen any of these marked special smokless steel and it’s early in the smokeless years is it safe to use modern Remington factory loads ? My plan is to use them and then reload with light target loads and lead fp bullets. Thank you for your help. Stratfordphil

The 1894 was only available with smokeless barrels on special order. Your gun is fine with factory ammo, but the lead would easier on the bore. Winchester didn't use their nickel steel on 92s as those rounds didn't require it
