I was cruising Gander Mt. the other day and came upon a nice looking 1894CB. I picked it up and of course immediately felt the need to own it. I wanted to do some research first though. I've used but never owned an 1894 Marlin out of all I've had. I noticed on the website it only lists the .45LC. Are they no longer producing it in .44magnum or something? It was priced at $850. I did notice it has the JM stamp on it. The only thing I have to critique is the wood. Fit/finish was fair, but it just wasn't too pretty compared to others I've had. Also, I'm wondering, what's a good maximum effective range of the .44magnum in that rifle? Any more than 100yards? I've never shot .44 beyond about 50 yards. I'd probably get a nice little tang sight for it if I purchase it.

I bought an 1894CB in .44 Magnum about 3 weeks ago, at a gunshop in Glen Allen, VA, (near Richmond) called Green Top Sporting Goods.

It was NIB and there was one more on the shelf. (I should have bought it, too!!) ;D
I paid $739.99 + 6% sales tax = $784.39 OTD. I was also charged $2.00 for out-of-state NICS (background check) call-in fees.
This rifle has a "91" prefix on the serial, and according to the "Born on List" on this site, this rifle was born in 2009, and it too, has a "JM" proofmark on the left side of the barrel.

Buy the rifle! Even though this rifle has a 20" barrel, it sits at my shoulder and 'hangs' perfectly for me.
This rifle's 'balance' is really good.
I've not had a chance to take 'er to the range for a 'dance', just yet, but, it's time is coming. It's waiting patiently, in the safe, all warm and comfy, until then.

If it's a 20" barrel, you might want to hold out for one of the older CBLs in 24", the price might be a shade more (maybe) I've seen them as low as $875 and as high as $1400.00 at auction houses. I did purchase a 20" last year for $760.00 plus $75.00 DOJ and shipping $25.00 There are a couple of guys in the forums here who have recently picked up 24" CBLs for $650 and $725 (both .44s) or so recently at shops or shows. Good Luck!!
