1894 Cowboy Limited 24" barrel What is it worth?

I found a 1894 Cowboy Limited in one of the local pawn shops today. The gun has most all bluing. The buttstock has places near the butt plate that the finish is tubbed off. I would consider the gun at 90%. It also has a lyman tang sight on it. 24" barrel and in 357 mag. cal.

What would something like this go for?

Thanks, John

Can I get the name of the seller? Maybe a phone number? I will buy it and then you won't have to worry yourself about it. will that help?
Seriously, the price of good looking Marlins has gotten crazy lately. If I was actively looking, I could see that gun at one of the shows for 550-600. Maybe more. And it would be gone if a few minutes of hitting the table.

I agree, I have several CB's and did not haggle over any of them, just felt lucky to finally find one and paid the money. If you want it buy it. If it was a caliber I wanted in 90% condition I would give as much as $700.00 for it. If I got it for less than $600.00 I would feel like I got a good deal. Less than $500.00 I would buy it if I wanted it or not, couldn't go wrong at that money.
Re: 1894 Cowboy Limited 24" barrel What is it worth?

I forgot to say he wants $725 for it.
So with the Lyman tang sight would that be reasonable?

Thanks, John

I think it is reasonable. I would not say it is a steal, but if it is a gun you want it is definately worth the money in my opinion. There is one new one on GB for around $950.00 to give you an idea. That is also the only 357 CB on there for sale. I would say a handful of cash money would get it down into the good deal price range probably.

Sight costs about $100 (IIRC) drill and tap one hole for tang sight ?. I'd be figuring out how to tell the little woman what a DEAL it was and how much more it would be worth in a couple years while I making room for it in the safe...although it might be under my pilllow for a few days. Another of these and various Original Size VAQUEROS/BISLEY VAQUEROS are at the top of my "buy list."

It is reasonable, but at the high end for used. See what the bottom dollar is when the dead presidents come out of your wallet. If they wont budge and you want it real bad, buy it! Once you shoot the snot out of it, you will feel it was money well spent.

I got lucky a few months ago when I went into my local gun/pawn shop. Picked up a real nice 24 inch CB in .45 Colt. $625.00 out the door. I was not expecting that. They were wondering if I would come in time and notice it. I said why did you not call me!

So I took it home and shot the snot out of it. Money well spent!

X2... ^ what he said... Seems like I paid about $700 for mine which included a tang sight (which I replaced with a Williams FP). I will say the 1894 in .357 with a 24" barrel is "very desired" which will keep it's value up...

Also, FWIW, I've only been able to get jacketed ammo or GasChecked 180gr lead to shoot accurately (2" or better @ 100yards) out of it... The best non-gaschecked lead groups I got were about 6" at 100 yards, and that was with a 180gr Lasercast running about 1080fps. All other plain based lead projectiles I tried were 150-160gr and I couldn't get them to group better than about 8-10" at 50 yards. Several others that have the 24" 357 1894s that I've spoken with had similar results.... Here's the thread on here where the lead loads were discussed:

Re: 1894 Cowboy Limited 24" barrel What is it worth?

I just posted my experience with pricing on this. I bought one on Monday on Gun Broker, for $1025.00 and I am happy. Where I live (SoCal) these rifle don't exist except by fluke so finding one and getting one here is real interesting. Just to make you feel way better, one sold on GB the week before for $1425.00!!!
Rifle I bought appears to about 99% if that make a whole lot of difference. I'd say snap it up now if it aint too late! Like real estate, they're not making any more 24" CB's.
I sure wished I lived out there where you guys can find these great guns for so cheap, $600.00 ?? Where should I move to?? I've got a 10 day DOJ wait here just to get it!!

Good luck

Absolutely !!!
Nice 9-year-old zombie thread......I suspect that prices may have changed a bit since then.

They have doubled since 2011. Even trying to find a .357 someone wants to sell is hard enough. You can find the 45 colt and 44-40 fairly easily. 44 mag every once in a while. I need the 44 mag to have one CB Ltd in every caliber.

Gun shows around here these days (IF you can find one!), a nice one will be around $1500.
I have four, (.357, 45C, 30-30 & 38-55) that I have picked up (mostly the last couple years except the 38-55 I bought new in '01.
Most were NIB & I paid or traded for about $1k for them & glad that I got them!

I have one in 44 Magnum I special ordered in 2000. I kinda doubt we will ever see the 1894 in 24 inch again. I hope we do.

Found a 357 Cowboy 24 inch at a gun show about 6 years ago. Bought it from a friend that set up with us. He was selling a widow friend’s guns. It was 100% like new for 500 bucks. Still have it.
