Went into my lgs this morning and they had a 1894 .44mag made in 1975 that looked like it had led a rough life. Both sides of the receiver were pitted and portions of the barrel. The wood was actually in pristine condition and the bore was good. I rescued it for $375 and will probably have the barrel shortened and do some other things to it and turn it into my Jeep rifle. Even for the rough metal condition....I thought it was a good deal considering prices these days.

Probably shorten the barrel to 16", hoop lever, receiver site, matte blue finish. Maybe shorten the stock a little as well. Those are probably all the modifications I will make.
