I have a chance to buy an 1894 in 44 mag this weekend and am trying to do a little research before I commit, and am looking for some help. I am trying to figure out the year. The serial number is 10092766 which by using the code would make this a 1990 produced gun but it is JM stamped on the left side of the barrel. When did Marlin stop stamping the barrel? I have a 1965 444 and a 1966 39A and both are stamped on the right side of the barrel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With the move from New Haven to North Haven in 1969-70,the JM was moved to the left side. Yes,your rifle is a 1990. Got pictures?

Thanks for the info. No pics yet, gonna get it this weekend if it's as nice as the other 2 Marlins I bought from this guy.
