    You guys are probably better at this than me...
    I never really know how one will turn out. I just get it smooth and put
    a walnut stain on, then tru-oil.
    Sometimes it's a bit lighter sometimes it's just right.

    Problem is getting through the Tru-Oil to bleach or sand out.

    If you're not in a hurry, you could try letting it stand in a sunny spot for a few weeks. The sun may bleach it for you right through the finish. At worst, it won't hurt anything.

    +1 on sunlight. I was thinking to post that, then read HIKayaker's advice. Sun bleach it for a couple weeks. It could turn out just right. If nothing else, it will be very durable. Doing over? Not really, could become blotchy.
