    Win mod 88

Just traded into a Win 88 a couple of weeks ago. It is 308 cal and serial no of 57xx. (1952 ?) The trigger is different but can be managed with
practice. With the factory sights I can get 3 in. groups at 100 yds. I am 75 yrs young and will be putting a scope in it. Someone has put a pachmeyer
recoil pad on it and the pad is very hard. This mod 88 is not in collector status so I am going to refinish the stock and recoil pad, then scope it.
I think a scope might get me down to an inch at 100 yds. This will be a hunting gun.

Where can you find an owners manual and a second magazine.

Cornell Publications has a remake for $9.95. As for the magazine, ebay or Gun Broker would probably be your best bet. They can be pricey.

Not sure about the owners manual, but try Gunbroker.com for extra magazines. A google search turns a bunch of listings, but most are out of stock right now. Gun shows may be a good source as well.

Hope you have good luck in your search.

Numrich has some knock off mags for sale--bought one for my Mod 88 in 308 Win a few years ago. Works as good as the original. Try this website to get a digital Mod 88 manual in a PDF format: https://www.stevespages.com/page7b.htm

I just checked ebay and there are several magazines there ranging from 65-125 dollars.

Jack First is showing one for $68. Plus other listings for magazine springs and parts. They are a bit pricey but I've had good luck with them in the past.

according to my pitch gauge, the checkering is 18 lines per inch. Does this sound right? I figured that I would refresh the checkering
while I am refinishing the stock and recoil pad.

Nice!!! Those early models with the cut checkering are beauties.
