    Winchester 9422 opinions...

I have a several .22’s and don’t need another one. But I want a 9422 after getting my first 94 in 30/30. I probably won’t be able to grab one until this fall, but I would like to hear from some of you that own them, and have shot them a lot. How’s the accuracy? Any issues I need to watch for? How do you guys think they compare to a 39? The prices around here are high. Very high! I know an older man that has two .22’s and a 22mag. But he wants top dollar for them!

I gave a 9422 Delux and a 9422 Mag to my cousins and still have one plain Jane 9422. The guns operate smoother than a 39 but accuracy is probably about the same. My remaining rifle shoots as well as a Walther bolt action that I have. Both those guns seem a bit limited by their sights. The Winchester gives flawless feeding, extraction and ejection and has a decent trigger pull out of the box.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

I worked with an engineer who was part of the original design team with quality control at Winchester. MIM parts were relatively new then and were utilized extensively for the first time in a gun. I am not MIM'd gun parts fan, but must admit the application, engineering quality, and reputation history of the gun since inception nullify all doubts.

I rue the day I sold mine for $200 dollars to my boss. (I got it for $150 in a pawn shop) Can't get it away from him after over 15 years. Absolute reliable, smooth feeding and accurate.

I have a 9422m legacy. The action is smooth as butter. It loves CCI’s. Also put a 3x9 on it an it’s accurate enough to keep wearing it.
I highly recommend this rifle. In fact, this is my “if I had to choose one rifle” rifle.

However complicated the issues become... it comes down to one simple question. Which is more important to you Life or Liberty? I've made my decision long ago.

Here too, ones I have seen have been 60-75% condition, and they want new in box condition prices!

9422s are like 39s -- if you have an opportunity to get one, do it, because tomorrow they'll cost more. Such is the market place.

I have one that I bought around 1977-78, paid near $140 for it brand new. Great rifle, eats anything and cycles smooth to this day. Popped a lot of woodchucks and rabbit with it.

With out a doubt one of the best 22's you will ever own. I picked up one in 22lr for a song ($360) a year or two ago. I paid full retail for the 22 mag with box a year later ($900) ouch. Still worth it, buy once once.

The 9422 is a great 22LR.. But I still prefer my Marlin 39... Either one will run you 2 to 3 times what they costed new
