    336w?

Hi Guys, just looking at buying my first gun I've done a lot of research and settled on a lever action and what better than a marlin? So I live in New Zealand and do a lot of hiking it's mainly scrub so I think I'm on the right track, a 30 30 is what I'll be getting and probably the 336w its $600 dollars less than the 336ss is there much difference? Itll be for deer and the occasional pig, I bow hunt around where I live so know the area well and it's hard going so a telescopic sight would be no good either, any info would be great cheers

Welcome from North Carolina. The $600 difference would mean more ammo!

Welcome, and I have a 336W with a scope. No complaints. Shoots fine. However, I did find a piece of plastic in the magazine tube which seemed to impact cycling. As you are probably aware, the SS is stainless steel. So, it is not as much of a concern with rust, no bluing to come off, and scratches, Because it is softer, some think it may not last as long as steel. I have no personal experience with that. I did consider a stainless rifle to avoid scratching the bluing. But, I just be mindful of how I handle it. However, I do believe stainless is more useful with a handgun, bluing experiences more friction due to holstering.
