Any who have worn a military uniform?

I will be at the remembrance service this Sunday, maybe some of you will be. Any who have worn a military uniform, from the cooks down to the Generals, be there if able.

Our little town puts on a nice parade and ceremony every Veteran's Day. Much respect here for the military and our veterans.

I'm proud to have served with some of the finest men and women I've ever met.

I just got a invitation from local High School to attend their Vetrans Day program and supper. Vetrans Day is a big thing here. We have the distinction of loosing the most guys in Vietnam per population. We lost 7 out of a town of 300. They brought the Wall here and set it up on the Football field. We are loosing all the WW2 and Korean vets, there aren't many left. When I was a kid I remember WW1 Vets and one Spanish American War vet marching at the head of the parade.

I will probably be up in a tree stand on Vets Day--but I will be reflecting back on my time wearing Class As/Class Bs/OG Greens/BDUs/DCUs/various PT uniforms.

I will be working my standard shift at the hospital during the day, but afterwards I will be meeting some fellow veterans for a few free meals at some local restaurants that support vets.

Veteran's Day and Memorial Day are the only holidays I observe. To everyone who served.

My father was killed during Linebacker II.

He is survived only by his brother and myself...and his grandson.

Some folks tried to shame me 'cause I went hunting instead of going to the parade one year. My son took his first whitetail buck that day. I couldn't understand why the other vets were so upset that I'd gone hunting with my son.

    Ah well.

When I first joined the local VFW---many members were mad at me for not being at local events or get togethers. They never got the fact that some of us military retirees are still working for Uncle Sam as civilians. Sometimes long work hours and working on weekends are still required--just like when we wore a uniform. I let my membership lapse so I don't have to deal with that idiocy anymore.

I was never in military service. Having said that, from my perspective, Veterans' Day is a day to honor military veterans -- it's not a day in which I expect a veteran to do anything. It's your day to march, parade, stay home, go hunting, or whatever else you want to do -- you earned it.
