Shooting Golf Balls @ 265 Yards with the CB

This morning was the morning I have been looking forward to for a long time! After all this load testing I finally got the scope back on the CB and opened her up on that illusive GOLF BALL at 265 yards. The Below is some detailed handloading information for this Group II rifle.

    Marlin 1894CB 44-40
    Bore: .429

    Starline Brass trimmed 1.300"
    CCI 300 Primers
    26gr IMR-4227
    200gr Acme Magma sized .430

    1,650fps @ 19,000psi
This should closely replicate Winchester's "High Velocity" 22,000cup loads intended for the Winchester Model 92'

    RCBS "Cowboy" Full resize
Lyman 44 Magnum "M" expand die
    RCBS "Cowboy" Roll Crimp

    Lee Perfect Powder Measure

I made a few shots to get the scope sighted in @ 100 yards

I then adjusted the sights POA @ 265 yards

My friend Wes was there so it made it even more fun!

Good shootinig and very entertaining. With a MV of "only" 1,650 fps (slow by "modern" standards), I'm surprised the flight time wasn't longer. However, your bullets stepped downfield right smartly, I'd say.

Looking closely in a few shots of at least one of those videos, you can see the bullet drop from the top of the screen to the bottom...LOL!!!!

That a hoot. The lapse from the report to the strike seemed pretty fast. I have never attempted shooting that far with my 94 44mg. I think you must have got a cherry. I was shooting at tall boy beer cans off a rest at 200yds with an original 94 Rifle in 32/20. I was using 98gr SWCs / 3.5gr Tite Group/ 1000fps with tang sights. I could lay my smoke down, make the shot and pick up my smoke before the bullet got there. The Indians could have ducked that load. I had a bunch of them loaded up for older 32/20 revolvers. My normal load is 100gr cast/ 6.0gr Unique at 1620fps. It gets there faster.

If your 22 won't do golf balls at 50yds benched with a scope you need to go shopping for a new rifle.
