    Flashlight mount?

Can someone recommend a good, sturdy flashlight mount for a 30-30 336 Marlin? Actually mine is a Glenfield, but I doubt that makes a difference.

Had to follow up a wounded black bear one night, into the woods & brush. My 44 mag revolver in one hand, flashlight in the other. It was pretty awkward and I was wishing for a lever action rifle with a flashlight on it.

I've used an AR-15 with a small but powerful flashlight mounted on it, and found that to be very useful. Was wondering if there's a good flashlight mount for the Marlin lever action rifle?

    Thanks, Guy

First, I would buy a 35 Rem or get a Marlin 1895 guide gun for bear work in close quarters--then get the flashlight mount. The bears haven't gotten any smaller in WA state since I left there 30+ years ago.

RPP makes M-lock panels you can have added. Looking at the photos I'm guessing they rout a recess in the forearm to fit the panels. I have also seen some redneck ingenuity with flashlights that clamp to the magazine.

Ya, I've shot a few of our black bear. Have actually only used the 30-06 and the 375 H&H, both worked well.

I've got confidence in the 30-30, but perhaps a dedicated lever action bear rifle... Hmmm... Good excuse! Thanks!

The 30-30 will work at close range--but---I would like a bigger bullet if tracking through the brush. Your bear might be only a few feet from you---had that happen to my huntin' bud many years ago near Newport, WA. Only he was huntin' mulies with a 243--not a good scenario.

Ya, I went into the brush after a different wounded black bear just a few years ago. I had more experience at that sort of thing, and I had a bigger rifle, a 375 H&H. But it was a single-shot Ruger Number One. I shot that bear at about ten or fifteen feet in the brush! It was "interesting" going in there after him. I could hear the bear moving, but couldn't see him. Then as I got closer, I could hear him breathing, but still couldn't see him. Finally saw brown fur between some branches. I tried to figure out what part of the bear it was, but couldn't. So I shot the brown patch! Then he moved enough that I could see his shoulder and put one there, finishing him.

Good sized bear but as I recall he took one 30-06/165 gr Partition, and my two shots from the 375. I was using 260 grain Nosler Accubonds.

I'm glad that hunt & follow-up happened in daylight!

    OriGlam QQ06

No experience with it, but in one of the reviews.. a guy said it works great on his Marlin 336.
