Fellers I'm not a lefty, but my middle boy (7) is wrong handed. I was a adamant that I wanted him starting off with a quality little left handed .22. I wanted him focusing on essentials, not on how to wrap himself around a rifle. Low and behold Savage makes their Mark II in a left handed youth model! It has the accu trigger, 10 shot detachable mag, it's slick and way accurate out of the box, and if you work the bolt right it'll feed shorts too. All this for $230. It's a mite big for him now, but he's still pretty good with it.
If y'all have a south paw young'un you might want to take a look.
Savage has what your son needs. The are swell rifles and darned accurate. He will enjoy his - immensely. Magazines, on the other hand, are like all other gun manufacturers - totally outrageous, in what they charge for 5-rd magazines.
