    Skinner Blade over Factory Bead

I have used a Skinner rear for some time. The factory bead front always worked fine, but I decided to try the Skinner front. A blade sight, I wondered if I would get better groups. It arrived in the post, drifted it in by lunch and tested at 100yds before 2pm. Took my brass drift and hammer to the range and made some very minor drifting. It started printing about three/ four inches left. I scratched a line by the side of the sight base and drifted left until I lost sight of it. A smidge. Printed spot on.

Yes, better groups, also an easier sight to see against busy backgrounds, brush etc. Very happy with it.

    Can anyone answer this one.

The base on the factory sight on my 1894c is .5". The replacement skinner is a quarter inch. I selected it for height rather than how wide. I drifted it in and it appears very solid, though there is exposed barrel dovetail either side. I dont see this as any issue, short maybe of aesthetics. I dont think the thinner base compromises stability. But, I am not sure. Anyone know better?

It will be fine but it can snag brush.

I've seen many as you described... You could track a wider down if you want. Me, I'd leave it if it works...

For the factory Marlin Ramp (prior to 2010) the width should be 3/8" across the base. (We list them by base width and height on our front sight page at Front Sights )

We do have the 3/8" base sights if you need one.

    Hope that helps!
