I have a 99EG in .300 Savage that likes RL12 and AA2520 powder with 150SBT Sierra's and 165RN Speer's bullets. It has a Redfield aperture sight, which is "period" for this 1952 model. I also have a 1899 Savage in a 30/30 that was made in 1907. It also shoots 125gr spitzer bullets well; however, not as accurate a Ret_Eng's! I put a Lyman tang aperture sight on the 1899. Thanks for the info on the scope mount; while I've had scopes on other 99's that were already T&D'ed. (I've never had the desire to modify one that was original.) What does this "non drilled" scope mount weigh? (It looks like it is a modified Redfield, Leupold, one piece mount.)

Don't know what it weighs--I just mounted it, glad to know that I wasn't D&Ting my 99EG. I think these mounts are machined from scratch IIRC. They are much different from a Leupold or Redfield mount due to the positioning of the receiver and barrel attachment points.
