    New 795 issues

I'm going to take the gun to the range today and shoot it to see if any other issues arise, but right out of the box I've got issues.
First the rear sight dove tail is buggered up, and the rear sight pivots left and right in the dovetail.
And the crown has deep excessive tooling marks on. I don't think I've ever seen an uglier crown. Is that normal? My 60 doesn't look this bad.
Too bad I didn't notice any of this until I left the shop.
Photos below. Will report on the performance of the rifle later today.

    Is this a new Remington/Marlin?

Wow! Now I know why I only buy Marlin's made by Marlin.

Thanks for the pictures! I hope it shoots well for you.

Yes. This is a brand new Marlin. So I took it out yesterday and shot it. Had a total of 2 spent shells fail to clear the bolt and get smashed. This was the ammo's fault. I was shooting Federal Lightning and some where noticeably under-powered. Then I had one jam, which I caused in the loading process. I'm used to the marlin 60. Close the bolt then rack it back. I put a total of 80 rounds through it yesterday. It was shooting pretty dang good with the sloppy rear sight in the dove tail.

When I got home from the range yesterday, I swapped out the rear sight with an extra Henry H001 rear sight I had, and it fit tight. The screw really helped secure the sight in also. I lined up the rear sight with the dovetail grooves on the receiver, hoping that would get the sloppy dovetail in the rear sight centered.

Took the gun back out to the range today to see how well it shoots with the new sight. I was prepared to do some adjusting, but at 15 yards it's not bad. Maybe a tad high. This is a Quarter sized bullseye.

The 795 is grouping better than my Marlin 60. Here I was thinking I'd send it back to Marlin and let them replace the barrel, but forget it. I'm satisfied with how this one shoots. Popping tin cans at 50 yards with ease.

Put another 50 rounds through it today. Not a single failure. She may not have a pretty crown and she may have a screwed up rear sight dovetail, but she's running great and shooting great. So I'm happy. Just need to get some more 10 round magazines.

Are promag 25 round mags any good?

I'd like to know where you bought it, then avoid them.
You do not lead by hitting people over the head - that's assault, not leadership D.D.E.

I had my LGS order one. Maybe from Lipsey's distributors? Not sure. If I had noticed these problems I would have refused the gun.

There is a cheap easy way to touch up the crown in the gunsmithing section. You might be surprised how much better it shoots.

Well, took it out the range again yesterday and lowered the sight one notch. She's shooting dead center now and amazing groups, at least for me! Not one malfunction. Ate everything I put in it.

Thanks for the recrown idea. I checked it out and I may do it in the future, but it's shooting so good now I'm not going to touch a thing. Fun little gun!

If this refers to the "brass bolt" method, I can vouch it works.
