If you go by the dating system found in the reference section here at MO, subtract your first two numbers of the serial from 2000, 2000-11=89 yom. Mr fixit

    ENBLOC,
I x'd out the last few numbers in your serial number. You only need the first two numbers to dertermine the year it was made.

I am really confused about serial numbers and date of manufacture. My model 60 has a serial number of 07433063. I know my wife bought this for me at least 30 years ago, maybe more. If I subtract first two numbers from 2000, it would be made in 1993. The math just doesn't work. I'm thinking it was purchased in either 1979 or 1980. The barrel is 22" and rifle length is over 40". I believe it has an 18 round capacity. Feeder tube is about 31/2" from end of barrel. It doesn't have an additional stock screw behind the trigger guard. I think the stock is either walnut or birch. It is not a laminate stock. I want to get a new stock, but I want it to be original to the rifle or a hardwood upgrade; nothing synthetic. If someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

If your magazine tube is that much shorter than the barrel, it is not an 18 round, and is consistent with a 14 shot '93 model. If yours has last shot hold open, it is definitely not a '79 or '80. Perhaps someone swapped rifles with you.
Looking at the bottom of the rifle, how many screws do you see?

A new style stock should fit your '93 Model 60.

    Marlin Glenfield model 60

I see plenty knowledgeable people with the glen field model 60 I have
    A few questions
    1. Dating Serial # starting with 72 ?
    2. I am correct in assuming this is A 1972 year date and not
    2000 - 72 and it would be a 1928 .
Barrel is about 1.5" long than tube mag.
Wooden stock with squirrel and bolt doesn't remain
    Open after last shot .
Any ideas or info would be helpful
    Thanks

    Bigtrshrod1,
Yes, from '68 to early '73, the first two digits were the model year. That is a nice piece, but sometimes prone to feeding issues. How is yours doing in that respect? Was there anything specific you wanted to know about it?

She feeds good I purchased back in 98 for $50 .
But hate federal brand but love that Remington gold hp .
I wanted to find parts dealer and who would know better
Than other marlin Glenfield owners. Now that I am fully aware of age then I really
Don't want to change much but there or a few things needed to
Keep it safe to shoot and pass on some day .

Just had to jump in here guy's. The information in the members of MO, never ceases to absolutly amaze me!!! I also have a squirrel model, Glenfield. Was always curious as to year of manufacture. I purchased it new, that year was 1973, I've owned it 41 yrs. In the Rant thread in Dec,2013, I stated how I hated that rifle, until I read the "nickle guage" fix, also from MO!!! shoots so well its wearing a brand new 3x9x40 scope that Santa "wife" gave me. Sighted her in yesterday!!! Shoots great!! T REX
