Removal of Marlin 795 firing pin retaining pin

Quick question, to remove the firing pin, which side of the bolt do I need to tap the retaining pin from? From the side facing the ejector port or the the other?

OK on the the ratiner pin one side will have groves on it tap that side in it will take some good force to remove it the first time. The pin will not come out completely just enough to remove the firing pin

The pin has some "ears" pressed into it, that's what makes the grooves. It will come out (and go back in) but it does take a little bit of tapping.

This is a model 60, but a 795 should be the same.
