Morning at the Range with my 39A

    Hello Friends--

I went to the range a couple of days ago to see what .22 ammo performed best in my 1952 39A. I checked 10 types of ammo and CCI did the best. All brands and types would kill a squirrel at 25 yards but these three were the most accurate in my rifle.

The day was beautiful and I had the whole place to myself. I was able to take my time and shoot with a good rest. I usually shoot CCI .22 short HP's in a scoped bolt action rifle when I squirrel hunt. The CCI short HP's had OK accuracy but the LR were the best.

My 67-year old eyes are gonna try open sights on squirrels this year with the old 39A. Wish me luck!

Nice shooting older 39, and think you'll get the squirrels just fine.

    Nice shooting!

Went to the range myself today! Rain had it shut down, stayed and talk with the range guy for half a hour. I was wanting to shoot my Sears Model 41 .22 single shot bolt!

good shooting. I have a 39a from 1947, and if I could only grab one rifle on my way out the door this would be it. My first rifle shot, about 100 years ago, was with my grandfather and his 39a. I have a buddy in Red Wing that has way too much land.. we love to walk around in the woods and just plink. Good plinking is hard to come by theses days. Best luck hunting. I would not post squirrel hunting intentions on this site; they may get a heads up.

I am a year younger than you. I would consider your performance excellent. Thanks for sharing your experience.
