Yes, indeed. Interesting program. I’m new to it, but not the Navy, having put in 10 years as an enlisted man. I picked a weapons rating, Fire Controlman (FC), and got myself into the MK 86 Gun Fire Control System, with lots of cross-training on the other weapons systems aboard the ships I was stationed on. Got my Enlisted Surface Warfare (SW) pin as an E-4, a rare achievement for a junior sailor in the early 1990’s. Left the Navy in October 2001. Started working with a company that works for the government in spring 2002 and have been with them since.
Much conversation happens between my wife and I about retirement planning, these days...I want to hang up my hat in 10 years by the time I turn 60. However, I don’t have the estimated 3-5 million dollars in my retirement account needed to retire, according to many financial planners, so I will likely keep working until I die, because the socialists will have taken over the country by then and somebody has to generate all the wealth they want to redistribute...

That is what i thought. I was actually behind the scenes in getting one of the FME powered ships in Norfolk back in service. As for what to do, I actively reload and shoot, have blacksmithed;, need to do more, need to fish more (have my lifetime FW license). When I was a teenager, I saw my 80 some year old great grandfather moldering on a couch, not long for this world. Six months later he acted like he was 60 some because he picked up a contract to put an addition on someone's house. I am NOT going to retire and go wait to die.

    NewtoSkeet,

Good age to capture Social Security benefits. However, if your current job has an annual bonus, be careful to not give up some because you leave a few months early. I recently found out that to get the full previous year bonus, April was the correct departure date.
