Lanolin. Itís not just for nipples any more

Well I finally headed into the pharmacy section of the grocery store looking for Lanolin to mix with alcohol for lubing brass. Never ever needing Lanolin before, I was suprized to find out its for nursing mothers. Thatís all I bought that trip. Needless to say, the cashier, a woman in her 50ís looked at me like I was 14 buying condoms. I told her it was for reloading. She took another step back!

So now that I have this tube of shameful cream that I will hide deep in my reloading cabinet, what is the best way to mix it with the alcohol?..I have lots of Isopropyl alcohol and small glass cleaner pump bottle. Do I just mix it 10 to 1 alcohol to Lanolin?

You have to use alcohol with 99% alcohol content... The stuff you get in the store is usually 91%, too much water, doesn't mix well... 10 to 1 is correct...

I've been using that concoction for the last 7-8 years, with the exception of using Lee Case Lube instead of prepared lanolin (basically the same stuff). I also use plain old household Isopropyl alcohol. I think I use around 7-8 parts alcohol to one part of lube in a plastic utility spray bottle. Just throw the brass into a zip lock bag, give it 2-3 squirts, then roll it in your hands a bit. Works for me.

Brush the dog and keep the hair in a trash bag and throw your clean brass in there until ready to reload. Of course a fresh cut sheep is hard to beat. LOL

I use Fluid Film for rust prevention on my vehicles. Works great. Lanolin based. Wonder if it would work as a case lube. Awful sticky, probably not.
