Anyone load 30-30 with Barnes x bullet and varget?

I got some Barnes old style x bullets for very cheap and wanted to use them with some varget. I donít have a Barnes manual but found a picture of the data online. Itís showing Remington cases, Winchester large rifle primers, their 150 gr x bullet, and 31.0-35.0 grains of varget.
Does that sound right? My worry is the hodgdon annual data shows a load with a Sierra 150 grain from 31-34.5 grains. The all copper bullet is usually a bit longer than the same weight lead core bullet.
Anyone use a load such as this?

What about IMR 3031? Barnes lists 27-31 gr for the 150 x bullet. Hodgdon lists 28.7- 30.5 for a Sierra 150

If itís the old Barnes without the grooves youíll probably hit pressure quicker and need to reduce your load data.

Iíd run some over a chrono if possible.

The new ttsx/tsx bullets build less pressure due to the grooves.

These are the flat nose Barnes 30-30 bullets? Those are good bullets.

I don't have an old Barnes manual handy. I think your best bet is to contact Barnes to see if they still have archive data for
    those old bullets.

I would watch out for Varget loads - as it's pretty slow burning powder for a short 30/30 barrel.... You will have an impressive muzzle blast. .

Figured I’d save some work and kill em and grill em with one shot.

    Hodgdon's burn rate chart places

    IMR4064 at #95
    Hodgdon Varget at #101
    IMR4320 at #102
    Winchester 748 at #103
    Hodgdon BLC-2 at #104
    Hodgdon CFE-223 at # 105
    Hodgdon LeverEvolution at #106

Anybody reporting massive, blinding fireballs with LeverEvo? It's slower than Varget. Win 748, a long time .30 WCF favorite, is slower than Varget, too.

In an interview with HANDLOADER magazine when Varget was first introduced, Chris Hodgdon described Varget as the Hodgdon Extreme version of IMR4064, more temperature stable, but able to be used in the same applications.

I’ve been curious about the temperature sensitivity of leverevolution. I hunt here in pa, but I also hunt in Maine. It can get cold pretty cold during deer season in Maine.

In my 35 Rem I've not experienced much variation at all from 95degs to 28degs so far. Only keep in mind unless your shot is 250+ yds temp won't make that huge of a difference at least not that I've noticed.

I'm also interested in this info - data for the 30wcf and barnes bullets is somewhat sparse. The OP was interested in varget - for me, any powder combo with barnes fn would e appreciated. I started a thread on this some time ago, so please feel free to pm or reply to it on the reloading forum if this is too much of a hijack. Chrono'd loads would be especially interesting! Thanks!

Hijack away. Maybe I’d get some ideas for other powders.
