Thanks for reminding me of that. It was a good reason to go back over some of that info. This really is the most comprehensive collection of info on the 25-20 on the internet.

I did shoot my loads into water to test them, 75grn Speer retained 67grns 89%, and the Sierra 70grn BK retained 54grn, 78%. The Sierra opened more violently, but it is a polymer tipped hollowpoint, and starting out faster than the Speer.

I am about to cast up some .258 RB in both wheel weights and straight lead. Why you ask? i like to know a guns usefulness from end to end. Jacket, cast with checks and plain base, RB's , high/low speed, etc. RB's are cheap to shoot as there are alot in a pound. Years ago there were .17 cal smokepoles for squirrel shooting that had 47" barrels. I have seen one. What did they know about RB use I want to know. Besides, something to do with a .25-20. Any one have an idea on loads for either the lead or wwts? I intend to use filler/non filler loads. Have fun and bangaway.

    25-20 vrs lions

Just thought of an interesting .25-20 story in which on a british railroad, going from Africa to India, people were being killed, maimed, drug off, eaten by african lions when they got off at station stops. A man happened to have a win. 25-20 so he tried to help by shooting the lions from atop a car. He killed some lions and drove off the rest. He was praised and asked to gaurd against lions at more stops. He did so and ended up with a gaurd job with the railroad. They bought his .25-20 ammo. This gun killed lots of lions and lepards on this job. When I find the story again Iwill post the data. Not bad for an whimpy rifle. Have fun and bangaway.

Forgot to mention the weight of RB's should be about 25 grs. Anyone have an old Lyman manual with data? Have fun and bangaway.

I purchased it from a friend. It's a 22" t/c custom shop barrel. I bought it before I saw you had problems with yours. So far I loaded up some Hornady 60 gr fp and had pretty good luck shooting. I put the scope on and was almost dead on at 50 yards. Just right of the bull. Couple clicks to the left and she was in the bull. As long as she shoot factory copper loads I will be happy as I do not cast bullets. I did purchase some Missouri Bullets 85 gr rnfp lead not sure how they will work in the contender but may work in the pump time will tell. Thanks again for all the useful info I look forward to playing with loads.
