That jack definitely never knew what hit it. Driven to 1900 odd fps the bullet is certain to work well on coyote at typical calling ranges.

I just bought some Winchester 25-20 brass and it measures 1.310, it is .10 shorter than RP brass, I want to load some 86 gr Remington bullets and the books call for a COAL of 1.592, that is with brass trimed to 1.320 do I need to seat these shorter in the Winchester brass to get it into the cannelure. If I do will it build to much case pressure.

    WELCOME TO MARLINOWNERS jerry!

If you are looking at 0.01" difference in case length I don't think there will be a problem seating the bullets to the crimp groove, provided you use the published starting (powder) loads.

    Jerry,

Good to see a new member with a 25-20 and looking for info.

Like others have suggested, do not sweat the thousandths. I have formed 25-20 cases from 32-20 brass that come up much shorter. If they are all the same length, you have a solid foundation. The recoil of a 25-20 is not going to move the bullet in the case even if you taper crimp on a groove diameter band or jacketed bullet not in the cannelure groove.

If your rifle seems to like the higher velocity loads for accuracy, may I suggest AA-1680. I have two that love the powder and higher velocity it produces. The powder is more dense and you can get more in the case without over pressure issues.

Thank you Pappy, I have formed the 32-20 also because I couldn't find any 25-20 brass, but I came across this lot. I have not tried the AA-1680 but will look for some and will try it. The 32-20 brass is even shorter but I can make it work on the 60gr Hornady. The knowledge that is on this thread is amazing, I also want to thank 35remington for all the work he has put into this thread, I always go back and look at it.

Pappy, I have shot some 86gr bullets but with R.P. brass the length was 1.320 and my gun really liked the load. That leads back to the question I posted earlier. I didn't want to push it in to much with a heaver bullet, so thanks for the info. The powder I used in these was the 2400 @ 7.5gr It has been a little cold here lately around -25 when it warms up will try again.

I was just wondering if anyone can be so kind and say how many loads I can expect out of the R.P. BRass or even Winchester brass, if I load them to just a little above the start load. Sometimes I load them to mid range of the load data.

I am not sure. Light loads make the cases last a long long time.....I still have and shoot many cases in my first lot Some have forty plus reloads on them.

The thread has been rewarding to be involved in.

I had one Rem case split at the neck after 7 loadings. This was on a batch that expanded into my throat that was eroded BAD. I had the barrel relined and annealed the whole batch. They were all full length sized. The rest have gone another 5 loads with no splits.
I neck size, M-die and use a Lee FCD. No loads even approaching max.
I have some Win cases from my brother that I have no clue how many times they were loaded. He pushed the max pretty hard too.

People say money can't buy happiness But it can buy me a Marlin and ammo to shoot in it, dies, powder bullets...
